Abstract

Queer theory Diana Fuss dan Sedgwick dikembangkan dalam tradisi masyarakat sekuler, sehingga memiliki keterbatasan dalam menjelaskan relasi antara identitas queer dan otoritas keagamaan dalam masyarakat Muslim Indonesia yang menempatkan agama sebagai sumber moral. Pada saat yang sama, kebutuhan spiritual queer Muslim berbenturan dengan absennya kebijakan keagamaan dalam institusi Islam. Penelitian ini tidak untuk menerapkan Queer Theory dalam masyarakat Muslim, namun untuk menganalisis bagaimana wacana agama dan queer theory memiliki potensi untuk diintegrasikan dalam menghasilkan legitimasi moral di ruang publik Indonesia yang religious. Metode penelitian menggunakan kajian pustaka dengan pendekatan kualitatif interpretatif melalui analisis teoretis dan tematik terhadap literatur bereputasi internasional dan nasional. Data dianalisis secara iteratif untuk mengidentifikasi persinggungan queer theory, moralitas Islam, dan legitimasi publik. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa studi terkini tentang queer theory dan masyarakat Muslim Indonesia belum diarahkan untuk mengembangkan epistemologi queer yang merangkul agama bagi agensi queer Muslim. Di sekup internasional, upaya pengembangan integrasi queer theory dan tradisi hemeneutik dalam Islam telah muncul melalui karya-karya Kugle dan Abdou. Hasil juga menunjukkan bahwa kekosongan kebijakan keagamaan yang inklusif bagi umat queer di Indonesia memperkuat kebutuhan akan kerangka queer yang lebih peka terhadap otoritas agama. Penelitian ini berimplikasi terhadap pengembangan studi queer yang mampu merepresentasikan nilai gender dan seksualitas dalam masyarakat Muslim Indonesia.
